Writing Consultant
As a writing consultant I help you find your true voice so that writing transforms from a burden requiring massive amounts of procrastination and expensive coffees to a joy you are willing to do anywhere, anytime.
Even–maybe even especially–if one of the writing burdens you are carrying is work-related.
Why? Because the constraints and icky feelings of work-related writing are the perfect, most amazing opportunity to free yourself of some very old and worn out and deeply un-useful ways of approaching ‘things I have to do’.
Does a writing assignment (could be a quarterly report, the newsletter your marketing coach told you you needed to do every week, your response on the group thread to the reading assigned last class, a project proposal to a client) make you want to go back to bed, send you running to clean the inside of the washing machine, require cappucino, chocolate or bourbon?
You are not alone.
You are also not to blame. Can you think of anything more guaranteed to ensure that no one would ever want to ‘do a writing assignment’ than most writing assignments throughout your school (and work) life?
Stuck in a chair behind an inevitably ugly desk (why is this? who said grey and tan are the colors we have to stare down daily from age 5 on?) doing something like, oh, writing your own yearly employee evaluation! How’s that for fun times? Or, what about a PhD thesis? Only your entire future life and career riding on it.
Here is the thing we have been trained to deny: writing is self expression.
Therefore, writing is yours. Therefore it should be something you enjoy. Writing is a personal and highly intuitive and creative method of communication about the things that matter to you most.
So - am I writing consultant? Yes I am! For the right person.
You might not be. I might be the wrong writing mentor for you. We need to find that out.
Here is my favorite client in a nutshell:
Multivalent (i.e. interested in and doing lots of things. Including professionally.)
Yearning for more ease and fun in every aspect of life, professional and personal
In a process of transformation or adaptation
In love with something that matters deeply that seems elusive or impossible to articulate accurately, go public about, or manifest fully
Deeply committed to finding the writer you are meant to be
If this resonates with you
We might be a match!
I work with clients 1-1 for a minimum of 6 months so that you can fully integrate what it means to love your own voice as a writer, no matter what writing circumstances arise.
